the top reasons i think my family is embarrassing:

People always (ALWAYS) tell me i have a great family and such and such.
I know that.
And the random strangers obviously know that.
But sometimes my family embarrasses the heck outta me.
So here is a little peek into my life. Hopefully you'll see my point of view.

1) Yesterday, my mom wanted our whole family to go on a bike ride and because it was mother's day, we all complied. Not happily, i must say.
"Sydney, why wouldn't you want to go on a bike ride with your family?" you ask.
Well, when my family goes on bike rides we literally look like a PARADE going down the street. People stop and stare and point and count. My dad rides a pink bike. We have to stop and talk to everyone in the neighborhood. My dad rides a pink bike. My little sisters sing Taylor Swift very loudly.(the one verse they actually know. over and over and over and over.) My dad rides a PINK bike.

2) When we go to the mall, people stare and count. And say "Que linda" and "uno, dos, tres, quatro,...siete, ocho?! God bless you."
That's really the most awful thing to do to large families; Please don't count the kids.
Also we have some "inappropriate" ads and photos outside the stores in our mall. (i.e. victoria secret, abercrombie and fitch, etc.) My brothers walk past them with their hands over their eyes, yelling loudly, "OH MY GOSH, DON'T LOOK OVER THERE. I SAW A THONG. AHH ITS A BRA. EWWW NAKED PEOPLE. NO ONE LOOK, NO ONE LOOK!" Then they "power-walk" past.  I'm usually torn between hiding between the fake trees or just breaking down in tears.

3) My dad feels the need to point out embarrassing or unnecessary facts about me to random strangers or people that sorta know me. Like when I first meet someone, i won't break out all the "unique" facts about me. (i.e i'm homeschooled, i have 7 brothers and sisters, i model.) I usually keep those secret until the 4th or 5th meeting. And then slowlyyyyyyy release that info over the course of several months to even several years.
Not my dad.
The other day our youth pastor and his family came over for dinner. (They don't know my family that well because my sister and I go to church by ourselves.) My dad opened the door and before I knew it, the youth pastor already knew my siblings middle names. I said to my dad through gritted teeth, "Don't you dare say my middle name." Of course, he did. " And this is my oldest, Sydney ____."
Greaaaaaaaaaat.
Before the night was over, the youth pastor knew that i am a super girlie-girl, I am scared that someone is going to slash my ankles in the parking lots at night, I am scared to death of homeless people, I don't want to go on mission trips, and that I had to memorize two books of the bible before i could drive by myself. That is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy more information then I would give away in the whole friendship. argh.

4)  People are constantly asking ME if my parents are "expecting" or planning on having another baby. In my head I am thinking.. "DO NOT ASK ME. I DON'T KNOW. ASK THEM. ITS THEIR PERSONAL LIFE AND I DO NOT WANT TO THINK ABOUT IT. KTHANKS." its so rude. and embarrassing.
I actually have been assumed to be the mother of my little brothers several times.  Which means that my parents are too old to be havin' kids.

I'm sure there is more.

Now let me be clear, I *heart* my family and I know families are supposed to embarrass one another.
I don't want to offend anyone by this post.

Thanks for reading.
xoxoSydney

What a wonderful life you have. I just can't believe how super these experiences must be for you as you grow and mature. The perspective you are gleaning will endure with you always.

This was hilarious. I almost hurt myself laughing so hard.

I'm glad I wasn't the only teenager to be completely embarrassed by my family. Someday I will have to tell you about the time my Mom showed up to my parent teacher conferences in leather pants.
